Eyeglasses FAQ

How often do I need to get new eyeglasses?

This is largely dependent on how often your personal style changes and what kind of shape your current frames are in! Realistically, you could continue to change out the lenses (if your prescription is changing) and keep the same frames - as long as your frames aren’t getting too worn out. We typically wear our eyeglasses every day - so you have to expect them to become more fragile over time.

Regardless, see your eye doctor 1-2 times per year for an eye exam. If you think it’s time to swap out your frames, then we can help you find the perfect new style for you!

I don’t like the reflections on my eyeglasses. What do I do?

Don’t worry! You aren’t the only one with this complaint. The glare at nighttime, on your computer, or when photos are taken with a flash, can easily be avoided. Talk to us about an “AR Coating.” This is an anti-reflective coating that solves this problem.

What is it called when your eyeglasses turn into sunglasses?

Those are photochromic lenses! These lenses darken when they are exposed to UV rays, and change back when the UV rays are no longer present. Many people enjoy these lenses because they don’t have to keep an extra pair of prescription sunglasses around. However, they may not be as effective in a vehicle.

How do I know if my young child needs glasses?

This can be difficult for a parent to assess, because children may not be able to communicate what is going on with their eyesight. Some common warning signs are:

  • Squinting
  • Sitting too close to the TV
  • Frequent eye tearing
  • Closing one eye to read or watch TV
  • Suffering from frequent headaches
  • Frequently rubbing eyes
  • Tilting head often
  • Sensitivity to sunlight

If you suspect that your child may be struggling with their eyesight, book an appointment with us, and we will assess!

I’m hard on my glasses. Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of them?

Yes! Have us apply a scratch-resistant coating to them. Keep your eyeglasses case with you at all times. When you aren’t wearing your glasses, put them in the case. Only clean your eyeglasses with the cloth we have given you. Choose spring hinge glasses that will allow for more flexibility.

Will I always need prescription lenses?

Potentially, yes. Unless you use contact lenses or get corrective eye surgery. The good news is, there are advancements in optometry all of the time, so there’s no saying what will come up!

I don’t like my coke-bottle glasses anymore. What do I do?

Don’t fret! We have new options now. Try high-index, refraction lenses! These lenses are thinner and lighter than the old style, coke-bottle glasses. You may also be a candidate for LASIK or contact lenses. Book an appointment with us to see what your options are!
